Bookmaker, types of sports bets
Choosing the type of bets in a bookmaker is an important step that determines your chances of successful wagering in sports.
Bookmakers offer a very wide range of sports bets, with some bookmakers placing more than two hundred bets on specific sporting events. Let’s consider the most popular types of sports bets in a bookmaker.
Outcome (1X2). Betting on the outcome of a sports match is the most popular and common type of bet in a bookmaker, simple and straightforward - 1 X 2. The event will end with a victory for one of the teams (1 or 2) or a draw (X). However, there are sports where a draw is not possible, such as tennis. In this case, the bookmaker will offer a bet on the victory of one of the players. A similar situation applies to certain tournaments in other sports where a winner must be determined.
Double outcome is a type of sports bet where the player is offered to choose a bet with a slight insurance on the final result of the match, based on the principle of "better safe than sorry." 1X means a win or a draw for the first team, i.e., the first team will not lose. 12 means the match will end without a draw, i.e., one team will definitely win, there will be no draw. 2X means a win or a draw for the second team in the match, i.e., the second team will not lose.
Time-match. This type of sports bet allows you to bet on whether a certain team will score goals in the first or second half. In events with a clear favorite, this is a very useful type of bet, with a higher coefficient than for a correct prediction of victory or a draw.
Total in sports betting. The bookmaker offers the player to bet on the number of specific events during the match. Most often, this is a bet on the number of goals, red cards or yellow cards, corner kicks, or free kicks for a specific segment of the game. For example, if the score in the game is 2-1, then the Total bet over 2.5 has won, meaning more than 2.5 goals were scored, in this case, there were 3. The same principle applies to the counting of other events in the game.
Bet on the exact score in the bookmaker. Bookmakers offer very high coefficients for the exact score in the match. In the bookmaker's listings, coefficients for the exact score in a match start from 4.0 – 5.0. A bet on the exact score provides an opportunity to earn more money.
Handicap in sports betting. In this type of bet, the bookmaker changes the final score with the help of the handicap value. Even if your team lost, depending on the handicap value chosen, you can still earn money.
The handicap in betting can be positive or negative.
Each of them, in turn, can be fractional or integer.
With a positive handicap, the player adds the value to the final number of goals or points.
Suppose a player in a bookmaker placed a bet on Chelsea to win with a +1 handicap. The game ended in a draw of 1:1. Adding the +1 handicap to Chelsea's goals gives us ‘2’. This means that with the handicap value, the bet was successful.
With a negative handicap, the player subtracts the value from the final number of goals or points.
Let's consider an example: You placed a bet on Manchester United to win with a -1.5 handicap. In this match, Manchester United won with a score of 3:1. Subtracting the handicap value from Manchester United's goals: 3 - 1.5 = 1.5, the final score considering the handicap is 1.5:1, so your bet was successful, and you made a profit.
With a fractional handicap, the player also adds or subtracts the value to the final number of goals, points, and the outcomes of the bet can only be two – a loss and a win. In contrast, with an integer handicap, there can be three outcomes: a win, a loss, and a refund of the bet.
A zero handicap betting option. In this type of bet, the player protects themselves against a draw. A win for your team means the bet has won, a draw means a refund, and a loss for the team means the bet has failed.
Asian handicap in sports betting at a bookmaker.
The Asian handicap or Asian line is a more complex type of handicap. The coefficient values in the Asian handicap after the decimal point look like “,25” “,75”. For example: +2.75; -1.25; +3.75; -0.25.
An Asian handicap is a type of bet consisting of two adjacent European handicaps:
-1.25 is -1 and -1.5;
+1.25 is +1 and +1.5;
-1.75 is -1.5 and -2;
-2.25 is -2 and -2.5;
+2.75 is +2.5 and +3, and so on.
Accordingly, the total bet is divided in half, and the calculation of the bet will be based on the two parts.
How the Asian handicap is calculated: Asian handicap, Asian line. Calculation examples.
Player bets: A player at the bookmaker can also place a bet on a specific event related to a certain player, for example, how many goals the player will score or how many assists they will make.
Live betting (online betting, live bets): a type of bet that players make during a specific sporting event in real-time – live betting. The odds change depending on the progress of the sporting event and can open up new betting opportunities.
